• South32's Aluminum, Copper Production Grows in Fiscal H1; Silver, Lead, Zinc Down

    South32 (S32.L, S32.JO) on Monday reported a year-over-year rise in aluminum, copper, and nickel production while alumina, silver, lead, zinc, and manganese ore output dropped in the fiscal first half ended Dec. 31, 2024. The diversified miner's aluminum production totaled 604,000 tonnes, compared with 575,000 tonnes a year ago. Copper production came in at 36,700 tonnes, compared with 31,600 tonnes, and nickel output was 18,500 tonnes, compared with 18,300 tonnes. Alumina production totaled 2.5 million tonnes from 2.6 million tonnes. Silver production fell to 5.9 million ounces from 7 million ounces. Lead production was 49,600 tonnes, compared with 58,800 tonnes. Zinc output totaled 22,900 tonnes, compared with 29,000 tonnes and manganese ore production fell to 1.7 million wet tonnes from 2.8 million wet tonnes. For fiscal 2025, the company maintained all of its production guidance except Mozal aluminum which was withdrawn in December 2024 owing to civil unrest in Mozambique.
